All schools that offer a statutory induction are required to have an Appropriate Body (AB) for their Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Appropriate Bodies play a key role in statutory teacher induction.
From September 2021, in addition to monitoring that ECTs receive their statutory entitlements, Appropriate Bodies will support schools and ECTs to meet the new statutory guidance.
As one of our Teaching School Hub responsibilities, from September 2021, SWIFT will provide one streamlined AB service for primary and secondary ECTs across the South West. This service will also cater for NQTs who have already commenced induction prior to September 2021.
Through moderation and quality assurance, SWIFT will work collaboratively with schools to ensure that ECTs are fairly and consistently assessed. In line with the new guidance, we will also be conducting fidelity checks, ensuring ECTs are receiving a programme of support and training based on the Early Career Framework (ECF).
The new SWIFT AB service combines the expertise of three very established AB teams from across the South West: NQTSW (West Country TSA and Ventrus TSA) and Torbay TSA; with over 17 years of experience.
