Reformed NPQs live from September 2021
We are delighted to inform you that the Teaching School Hubs in Cornwall, Plymouth, Devon and Torbay are working in partnership with Leading Schools South West and Teach First to make available to your school the full suite of reformed NPQs from September 2021.
The partnership has been formed in order to support schools in developing world-class leaders, bringing together the best local knowledge and context with the national experience and programmes of Teach First.
Four Teaching School Hubs have the responsibility to support the professional development needs of schools, including the provision of ECF and NPQ, across the area:
Leading Schools South West (LSSW) is a registered Charity that since 2012 has seen over 3,000 leaders graduate on its NPQ courses. It has one of the highest ratings from the DfE QA process of all national providers to date. It pioneered NPQs through an Apprenticeship route, with over 150 leaders taking advantage of this route, all successfully and over 60% with Apprenticeship distinctions. Over 150 leaders have already registered for courses from September.
Teach First is a national charity offering innovative ITT courses, NPQ and other school improvement courses. Teach First has 18 years’ experience designing and delivering high-quality training to schools that need it most. TF have reached >19,000 Teachers across its programmes, including ITT (rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 41/48 areas) and current NPQ suite. 90% of NPQ alumni report they can now implement improvements to their school, and 100% of Headteachers were satisfied with TF’s Leading Together programme and Headship First pilot (which supports those new to Headship).
All NPQs are taught through a blended balance of online individual learning, online seminars and face-to-face meetings. They are designed in recognition that leaders are already busy people, with a simplified end-of-course assessment. There are two cohorts annually, starting in Autumn and Spring.

Scholarship Update from the Department for Education
The Department for Education have now confirmed scholarship funding for NPQs.
Full scholarships are available for the following:
Schools with the top 30th percentile of Pupil Premium (and not 30% of Pupil Premium as previously stated)*
*Please note this update is further to recent DfE guidance.
We are seeking clarity on whether this applies to Executive Officers in MATs who have at least one school that meets this criterion.
In addition, you can take advantage of our combined NPQ and Apprenticeship route that enables you to fund the qualifications through your levy pot.
Work with us as a Facilitator
The date for Facilitator applications has now closed.
The role of Facilitator is to facilitate online seminars at the end of modules (one hour each) and the face-to-face conferences. Training is provided by Teach First, with ongoing support from LSSW and your school would be recompensed for your time.
To arrange an individual conversation about the needs of your school or Trust (for example, to organise a MAT-specific cohort), email Ally Williams.
